Shaare Zedek Medical Centre plays a pivotal role in every aspect of life in Jerusalem.
The hospital has grown dramatically in recent years and has a profound responsibility to the people it serves.
In the past decade, Shaare Zedek has grown from a 500 bed facility to a 1000 bed hospital with centres of excellence in key medical areas.
Shaare Zedek receives its funding for treating patients from health funds in Israel, but receives only minimal financial assistance from the Israeli Government for new buildings and equipment.
The Australian Honour Board is located at the entrance of the hospital and pays tribute to members of the Australian community who have made significant contributions to Shaare Zedek Medical Centre.
The Australian community has a close and committed relationship with Shaare Zedek Medical Centre. There are many Australian born medicos, nurses and health care professionals training and working at Shaare Zedek.
In past years, funds donated by the Australian community have helped Shaare Zedek purchase significant projects. including the Patient Tracking System in the Emergency Department. This unique system was the brainchild of Dr David Applebaum z”l in whose memory the system is dedicated.
